Local schoolchildren have helped plant cherry trees in Stanley Park, Anfield.
Stanley Park CIC, Everton Football Club, Liverpool Football Club, Living Landscapes and Carillion with pupils from Pinehurst Primary School planted six cherry blossom trees (on Wednesday, 15th November) in the Grade II listed park.
The project follows the planting of Cherry Blossom Trees in the Spring by Carillion and Stanley Park CIC.
Sarah Atherton, Everton FC Neighbourhood Manager, said: “As an organisation, we take great pride in our Neighbourhood and local Community and always like to support where we can. We teamed up with Carillion and LFC over the past few months to plant new trees in our local park, it’s important we give something back to our beautiful community, especially by supporting the Social Enterprise in Stanley Park.”
Forbes Duff, Red Neighbours Manager at Liverpool Football Club, added: “It’s great to come together to support Stanley Park CIC alongside our neighbours Everton FC. Supporting activities like this forms part of the Club’s continued commitment to the local community. We would like to thank all involved and particularly the pupils from Pinehurst Primary School who came to help.”
Community Manager of Stanley Park CIC, Rachael O’Byrne, said “In February it was fantastic to plant so many trees, with so many volunteers bringing a new dimension to our beautiful park. We’re delighted to be continuing this project by planting 6 new trees; in the Spring it will transform the path into a beautiful Avenue of Blossom.”
Children from Pinehurst Primary School who helped plant the trees are taking part in the Archbishop of York Young Leaders Award. The award empowers young people to make a difference in their local community.
Lynsey Platt from Pinehurst Primary School said “It is always lovely to get out in the community with the children and that’s why I enjoy coordinating The Archbishop of York Young Leaders Award. This is a citizenship award where you strive to be the change that you want to see in the world. So this was a perfect opportunity for the children to gain valuable volunteering experience and make a positive change to our area.”
Pinehurst Primary School pupil Lucy commented, “I really enjoyed helping out today! We love the park and visit it regularly with school so it is really important that we look after it. These trees are going to look amazing in the summer and I hope everyone enjoys them. It is fun to help out in the community and I’m proud to think that we’re doing a good thing for future generations”
The project has been funded by Everton Football Club, Liverpool Football Club and Stanley Park CIC and supported by Carillion.
